St. Louis in May

Last month Doug and Joan came to visit us for a whole week. They are usually weekend warriors, so we got spoiled to have them for that long this time. One of the days they were here we went to St. Louis to see some of the sights. I still can't believe that in the 5 years we've lived here, I've never taken them to either of these places.
First we went to the Cathedral Basilica in St. Louis. What an impressive building! The mosaics are quite breathtaking and took over 70 years to complete!
How would you like to be the one to put up all of the little ceiling pieces? My neck hurts thinking about it!
The flash on my camera does not do this one justice - It's really not a cheesy gold paint job, but thousands of teeny tiny pieces of gold glass.
Next we went to the botanical garden. So pretty this time of year! I love these purple things (not sure of the name - Stop rolling your eyes, Doug)
There's beautiful blown glass art throughout the gardens.

Great pics! Elisabeth wants me to tell you that the Dogwood is the VA state tree. :-)
