Girl's Camp 2009
In early June we went to girl's camp. This was my second year at girl's camp. This year we had quite the adventure. On Wednesday night shortly after dinner and right before we were supposed to all meet up for a "Faith Walk" a HUGE storm hit. We were the furthest camp away from the mess hall and in severe weather we were counseled by the Boy Scouts (who run the camp where we were "Camp Beaumont") to stay at our camp sites until someone comes to get us. So we did. We all hunkered down in one tent and were trying to stay dry, but the rain fly wasn't working, so rain was coming in from the top, so we were getting wet from above and there was a crack in the bottom of the tent, so water was getting in from the floor.
Just as we were about to make a run for it, several boy scouts came and told us we needed to get to the mess hall right away. As soon as we got outside, I could see how ominous it was. The sky was an eerie gray/green. We followed the boy scouts to the mess hall, but it was raining so hard it was hard to see anything. There were some points where we were wading through waist-high water. We all had to stay the night in the mess hall. The girls were such troopers and we weren't sure what the fate of the camp would be. The next day we assessed everything and decided to stay. I made a trip home and did some loads of laundry (most everything was soaked) and a big laundromat trip was made for sleeping bags. The camps that weren't hit as hard as others pitched in to help those that had it worse and it ended up being a great experience for the girls!

I remember you telling me about this. So glad that you were safe. What a story these girls will remember forever and I am sure they will draw strength from this experience throughout their life.
